Oxy-Hydrogen Machine
How it works, in five sentences.

An electric current is passed through distilled water carrying an electrolyte inside a sealed cell. The water separates into hydrogen and oxygen, which leave the cell together in the same two-to-one ratio by volume in which they were bound in the water. Because the gas is made only as fast as it is used, there is no cylinder inventory: output is set by the electrical input and the cell size, not by what is in a store room.
The gas passes through a bubbler and a flashback arrestor before it reaches a torch tip or a combustion air inlet. The flame is small, very hot and carbon-free, which is exactly why it is used for finishing work where a soot mark is a reject.
One litre of water, how much gas?
One litre of water is about 55.5 moles of H2O, which splits into 55.5 moles of hydrogen and 27.8 moles of oxygen — about 1,860 litres of mixed gas at 0 °C and atmospheric pressure. That is the chemistry ceiling; what a machine actually delivers per kWh is the figure to ask for on the specification sheet.
Hydrogen gas price in Bangladesh — buying cylinders or making it on site
People searching for a hydrogen gas price are often comparing two different things.
Bottled hydrogen is bought by the cylinder, with a cylinder rental or deposit, a delivery schedule and a store of compressed flammable gas on the premises. An oxy-hydrogen machine is a one-time equipment purchase whose running cost is the electricity it draws and the distilled water it splits. It delivers a hydrogen-oxygen mixture for a flame, not pure hydrogen for a process that needs pure gas.
So the comparison is not price per cylinder against price per machine. It is the cost of the gas you actually burn in a month by each route: cylinders, rental and handling on one side; machine, electricity, distilled water and cell maintenance on the other.
To compare the two routes on your own work
- Write down how many cylinders the bench uses in a month today
- Ask for the machine’s gas output in litres per hour and its electrical input in kW
- Multiply the input by your running hours and your tariff
- Add distilled water, electrolyte and the cell maintenance interval
- Set the total against the cylinder bill, rental and handling
What the specification sheet must state
MHM quotes each machine against the application. Whichever supplier you compare, these are the lines a written specification should carry — a quotation that leaves them blank cannot be compared with another.
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Parameter | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Gas output | litres per hour | Everything else scales from it — the cell, the power supply and the water handling |
| Electrical input | kW | Multiplied by running hours, it is the running cost |
| Supply voltage and phase | V / phase | Decides whether the machine can sit on the bench circuit or needs a three-phase feed |
| Working pressure | bar | Must match the torch or the induction point it feeds |
| Water consumption | litres per hour | Small, but it is distilled water, so it is a standing purchase |
| Electrolyte | type and dosing | What is added to the distilled water, and how often it is topped up |
| Torch outlets | number | One machine can serve several benches |
| Safety devices | list | Flashback arrestor, bubbler, level, temperature and dry-run protection |
| Dimensions and weight | mm / kg | Bench, trolley or floor-standing |
| Origin and warranty | — | Where it is made, and what the warranty covers on the cell as against the rest |
Specifications are subject to change according to the requirement, brand, availability and other variables.
What determines the price of an oxy-hydrogen machine
Gas output in litres per hour is the first number, because everything else scales from it.

| Cost driver | Why it changes the price | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Gas output (l/h) | The cell, the power supply and the water and electrolyte handling all grow together. | The largest single driver |
| Cell construction and plate material | Plate material and cell design decide how long the cell lasts on the water you actually run. | Decides service life |
| Power supply rating and regulation | A well-regulated supply holds a steady flame and protects the cell. | Significant on larger machines |
| Number of torch outlets | One machine can serve several work benches. | Moves with the number of operators |
| Safety and control package | Flashback arrestor, bubbler, level, temperature and dry-run protection. | Never the line to save on |
| Origin and lead time | An imported unit carries freight, LC and duty on the day. | Moves with the exchange rate |
| Installation and operator training | Positioning, electrical connection, first fill and handover. | Quoted separately |
A small bench machine for a jewellery workshop and a unit sized for combustion support on a generator are different classes of equipment. Send the application and MHM will quote the size that fits, with equipment and installation as separate lines.
Where oxy-hydrogen machines are used
Acrylic and signage fabrication
A saw or router leaves an acrylic edge matt. A brief pass with an oxy-hydrogen flame melts the surface of the cut and the edge comes back clear, with no soot to clean off afterwards — which is why sign and display workshops use it for edge polishing.
Jewellery and small metal work
A concentrated, clean flame for brazing and soldering gold and silver, with no fuel-gas cylinder in the workshop. Output is set at the machine, so a fine flame is repeatable between operators.
Glass working and ampoule sealing
Glass tube working and the sealing of ampoules, where a carbon deposit inside a sealed container would be a contamination failure rather than a cosmetic one.
Combustion support on generators and boilers
The same gas can be fed into the combustion air of a diesel or gas engine or a steam boiler. That application has its own equipment, sizing and verification method.
Maintenance workshops
Light brazing on refrigeration and air-conditioning pipework and other small heat work, where the alternative is keeping fuel-gas cylinders in a workshop that would rather not store them.
Laboratories and training
Where a small, clean, controllable flame is needed for demonstration or bench work, an on-demand generator avoids storing a hydrogen cylinder on the premises.
Safety and site requirements
No stored gas is a different risk profile from bottled fuel gas — it is not the same as no precautions.
Because the gas is generated only while the machine runs and only in the volume being drawn, there is no stored gas inventory on the premises. Hydrogen is still a flammable gas. A flashback arrestor must be fitted and in date, the bubbler must be kept at the correct level, the area needs adequate ventilation, and the operator needs training on start-up, shutdown and what to do if the flame goes out.
Water must be distilled or demineralised with the specified electrolyte; tap water attacks the cell and shortens its life. Follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions supplied with the unit.

Frequently asked questions
What is an oxy hydrogen machine?
An oxy hydrogen machine, also called an HHO generator or a Brown’s gas generator, passes an electric current through distilled water containing an electrolyte and splits it into hydrogen and oxygen. The two gases leave the cell together in the same two to one ratio by volume in which they were combined in the water, and the mixture is burned at a torch or fed into a combustion air stream. The gas is produced on demand, so no gas is stored on the premises.
What is the price of an oxy hydrogen machine in Bangladesh?
Price follows gas output in litres per hour first, then the electrical input rating, the cell construction and materials, the number of torch outlets, the control and safety equipment fitted, and the origin and lead time. A small bench machine for a jewellery workshop and a unit sized for combustion support on a generator are different classes of equipment. Send the application and the required gas output to MHM Machineries for a written quotation.
Is an oxy hydrogen machine cheaper than buying hydrogen gas cylinders?
It depends on how much gas you burn. A machine is a one-time purchase whose running cost is electricity and distilled water; cylinders are a recurring purchase with rental and handling. Compare the monthly cost of the gas you actually use by each route, using the machine’s stated gas output and electrical input. Note that the machine delivers a hydrogen-oxygen mixture for a flame, not pure hydrogen.
What is an oxy hydrogen machine used for?
The common industrial uses are flame polishing the cut edges of acrylic sheet, brazing and soldering in jewellery and small metal work, glass working and ampoule sealing, and combustion support where the gas is introduced into the air supply of a generator or a boiler. The flame is small, concentrated and free of carbon deposit.
Is an oxy hydrogen machine safe to run in a factory?
The gas is generated only while the machine is running and only in the volume being consumed, so there is no stored cylinder inventory on the premises. Hydrogen is still a flammable gas, so a flashback arrestor, a correctly maintained bubbler, adequate ventilation and a trained operator remain necessary. Follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions supplied with the unit.
What does an oxy hydrogen machine consume?
Electricity and water. The electrical input rating multiplied by running hours gives the units consumed. Water consumption is small because only the water that is split is used — one litre of water makes about 1,860 litres of mixed gas at standard conditions — but it must be distilled or demineralised water with the specified electrolyte. Tap water damages the cell.
What is the difference between an oxy hydrogen machine and a fuel saving system?
Both make the same gas by electrolysis. An oxy hydrogen machine delivers it to a torch for heat work. A fuel saving system feeds a small, metered flow of it into the combustion air of a generator or boiler. MHM lists its fuel saving systems for 1 MW to 2.5 MW generators and boilers up to 2.5 tons on a separate page.
